Mansar and Surinsar are twin lakes in the Shivalik hills of Samba district, about 9 km apart, with the Surinsar–Mansar Wildlife Sanctuary between them. Together they were designated a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 2005. Legend says Arjuna shot an arrow into the earth at Mansar and it emerged at Surinsar, linking the two lakes underground.
Mansar Lake
The larger of the two, Mansar is over 1.5 km long and ringed by forested hills. It is both a picnic spot and a pilgrimage site, revered for its link to the sacred Mansarovar.

Surinsar Lake

How to Visit Both Lakes
The easiest plan is a loop from Jammu: drive to Surinsar (approx. 42 km), then continue about 9 km through the wildlife sanctuary to Mansar. Both lakes can be covered comfortably in a day. Jammu Tawi is the nearest railway station and Jammu Airport the nearest airport.
Best Time to Visit
October to April is the most comfortable time; the lakes sit at low altitude and summer afternoons get hot. March to May is good for birdwatching, and summer brings lotus blooms at Surinsar.
